MONTREAL—Before Matteo Mancosu even says a word, it’s easy to understand that he is a man who is at peace with himself. His demeanor is mild, almost Zen-like.
The Italian forward, who joined the Montreal Impact on a season-long loan in July from Serie A-side Bologna, doesn’t have any regrets about his soccer career, which is beginning to wind down—he turns 32 in December. In Italy he might be a mostly forgotten name, cast aside into the failure bin together with all those other innumerable players who never quite made it, but Mancosu thinks differently of himself.
“I had the career I deserved; I tried the best I could do, and I’m happy with what I was able to accomplish,” Mancosu said after training Wednesday.
