Pink was the color of the day in Major League Baseball on Sunday. Players wore pink cleats and pink wrist bands. Traditional jersey colors were replaced with pink letters and numbers. Many players used pink bats. The pink-a-palooza was part of MLB’s efforts to raise awareness of and money for breast cancer research. It was also the league’s way of “celebrating” Mother’s Day.
Mothers mean so much more to baseball than as victims or potential victims of breast cancer. MLB’s celebration of Mother’s Day should reflect that importance.

Breast cancer is a terrible disease that kills approximately 40,000 women in the United States each year, according to the American Cancer Society.
