Minnesota upsets No. 6 Maryland for first conference win

Minnesota used a big first half Thursday to pull off a 68-63 upset of No. 6 Maryland at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

It was Minnesota's first win in the Big Ten this season and snapped a 14-game losing streak. The Golden Gophers (7-19, 1-13) outscored Maryland 40-29 in the first half and did enough to hang on in the second half.

Nate Mason led the Golden Gophers with 18 points and six assists. Jordan Murphy added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Rasheed Sulaimon scored a game-high 28 points to lead Maryland (22-5, 10-4), which has lost two straight and will play host to Michigan on Sunday.
