Michigan's stunning win leaves Indiana shaking its head

INDIANAPOLIS – There are some accidents that happen in March that are impossible to explain, especially to the losers.

Indiana did not do everything right on the final defensive possession of its Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal against the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan’s players, though, did almost nothing they had planned. And still UM won, 72-69, on Chatman’s stunning buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

It might have been the play that got Michigan (22-11) into the NCAA Tournament.

In a tie game with no shot clock to bother them and a chance to fire an attempt at a game-winner, the Wolverines screened on the right wing for point guard Derrick Walton, got him a wide-open jumper.
