Michigan State softball has not had the start of the season that the program would expect. The team came into the day at 9-16, and struggling in Big Ten play, but on Friday, the team had a special moment.
For the first time since 2018, and the first time in the regular season since 2009, Michigan State took down their instate rivals Michigan. Michigan, known for their dominant softball program, got bested by the Spartans in Ann Arbor.
A 4-3 win propelled the Spartans ahead of the Wolverines on Friday. Trailing 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning, the Spartans plated three runs that proved to be the difference.
