Tatum was a 4-star in Michigan State's 2022 recruiting class, he started in 2023 before an injury kept him off of the field in 2024. He will finish his three years in East Lansing with 62 tackles, three tackles for loss and eight passes defends. He played in 22 career games.

Coming off of a serious injury that sidelined him in 2024, Tatum has found himself falling a touch behind other defensive backs on depth chart, most likely leading to the decision to seek a new home.
