Michelle Wie started the day at the Canadian Pacific Women's Open six strokes back of the lead, and she ended it in the hospital. Wie had to withdraw from the tournament due to pain that wound up necessitating appendix surgery.
"Michelle Wie will have surgery to remove her appendix today at Ottawa Hospital," a spokesperson from IMG said in a statement. "Further details on her condition will be provided when available."
Wie had to withdraw from the U.S. Women's Open because of a neck injury, and she has been plagued with a variety of injuries off and on over the years.
