Michael Brooks, the college basketball national Player of the Year for the 1979-80 season with La Salle, has died, Philly.com reported Monday. He was 58.

Brooks died of a massive stroke at a hospital near his residence in Switzerland, Brooks' sister Aleta Arthurs told the site.

The 6-7 Brooks, who played his high school ball in Philadelphia, earned postseason NCAA honors by averaging 24.1 points and 11.5 rebounds in his senior season at La Salle. Those averages tracked very closely to his career totals with the Explorers (23.1 points, 12.0 rebounds per game over four years).
