After guiding the Mets to their first pennant in 15 years, Manager Terry Collins will be rewarded with a two-year contract extension that will be officially announced during a news conference at Citi Field on Wednesday.
At 66, Collins is already the oldest manager in baseball, and he has indicated in recent weeks that he hoped to get one more contract to manage Jim Leyland, Collins’s mentor and friend, retired from managing at the age of 69. Collins will be 68 when his new contract expires.
Earlier this season, Collins’s job status appeared to be in jeopardy.
