Mets’ Sandy Alderson Needs Treatment for Cancer

Sandy Alderson, the Mets’ 68-year-old manager, has cancer and will undergo eight to 12 weeks of chemotherapy, the team disclosed on Friday.

The Mets said that the cancer was treatable, and that they were optimistic that Alderson would make a full recovery, but the type of cancer was not immediately made known. Because of the treatment, Alderson will not attend baseball’s winter meetings next week in Nashville.
