The Mets announced Wednesday that Matt Harvey would make his next start Sunday night against the Yankees. Manager Terry Collins indicated that Harvey might be limited to five or six innings and that he would make one more start under similar restrictions before the Mets decided whether to use him in their last series of the regular season, against the division rival Washington Nationals.
The Mets had discussed starting Harvey just two more times. But after much debate, they decided that this new plan was the best way to keep Harvey sharp for the postseason while holding him somewhere around his innings limit and giving the team the best chance to win now.
