Mets pitcher Jon Niese left his start against the Cardinals on Tuesday in the first inning due to left knee pain.
Niese faced four batters, walking two, before exiting the game. Manager Terry Collins discussed Niese’s knee pain before the game, but said the pitcher warmed up for the start without any issues.
Niese is the latest Mets starter to experience injury issues this season. Earlier this month New York placed Steven Matz on the 15-day disabled list. Matt Harvey is out for the season, while Zack Wheeler is unlikely to return from Tommy John surgery.
The Mets entered Tuesday at 62–62.
