The Mets will host the NL East-leading Nationals tonight in the opener of what is a critical four-game series for whatever playoff hopes New York still has. Having lost six of its past eight games, Washington’s lead over second-place New York is down to 8.5 games – after it had been 12.5 just over a week ago.
But any ground the Mets make up will have to be done without second basemen Neil Walker and right-hander Matt Harvey. And the injury news remains in the not-so-encouraging category for right-hander Noah Syndergaard.
