Over the past week, the Mets were no-hit for the first time since 1993; saw their ace, Matt Harvey, again get battered in a loss; and then blew a ninth-inning lead to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday before falling in 11 innings.
Amid these painful moments, the Mets did mix in a couple of victories. Still, it would have been understandable if they had been starting to feel a little besieged — from their numerous injuries to the fact that even ostensibly happy occasions, such as the arrivals of newborns for infielder Ruben Tejada and closer Jeurys Familia, were happening so close together as to create even more challenges for the team’s roster.
