Looking exhausted down the stretch, No. 19 Duke gave away a lead of 16 points in the second half and lost to Notre Dame, 84-79, in the quarterfinals of Atlantic Coast Conference tournament Thursday in Washington.
V. J. Beachem scored 19 points, including a couple of pivotal 3-pointers late in the second half, for fourth-seeded Notre Dame (21-10), which also beat Duke a year ago en route to winning the league tournament and earlier this season at Cameron Indoor Stadium. In all, the Fighting Irish have won five of the teams’ last six meetings.
