Mayor won't sign Boston's contract for Olympic bid

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced Monday that he could not support the city’s bid of the 2024 Olympic Games if that meant signing a host city contract now, as he has been asked to do by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

In an abruptly called press conference on Monday morning, Walsh asserted he would not commit to anything that would rely on taxpayers to fund the Games.

His press conference raises questions about whether the USOC could pull its support of the bid. On Saturday, insidethegames - a website that covers Olympics and other world competitions - reported that the USOC will hold a teleconference Monday to discuss its support of the bid.
