For three days, the debate over Matt Harvey’s innings limit raged on in the news media. His agent, Scott Boras, and his boss, General Manager Sandy Alderson, laid out their sides publicly, and Mets fans hammered Harvey on social media for not definitively saying, during a news conference Saturday, that he would pitch into the postseason.
Harvey spoke vaguely and appeared careful not to pick sides, and then on Sunday, he finally provided a bit of clarity, posting an essay to The Players’ Tribune, the website run by Derek Jeter, announcing his intention to pitch in the postseason, if the Mets make it.
