Martinsville Speedway announced Wednesday that it is installing lights for next season, setting the track up for a possible night race in 2018.
It also raises another possibility — a midweek night race.
The idea for a midweek race has been bantered about the past few years, and it’s something NASCAR needs to try. Martinsville could be the perfect place.
With TV ratings down and its audience dwindling, a midweek night race could be a way to reenergize fans and produce excitement.
