Laser inspection strikes again: This time, it's Martin Truex Jr.'s No. 78 car that failed the notorious post-race test.
Truex gets one break: The 10 driver points deducted per Wednesday's penalty announcement were not taken from his numbers to start the Chase for the Sprint Cup. He enters Sunday's race at Chicagoland with 2000 points for making the 16-driver Chase field plus six bonus points, three per victory.
Had those 10 points been taken off his Chase total, Truex would have started the 10-race championship series in danger of elimination after the first three.
No such luck for crew chief Cole Pearn, who was fined $15,000.
