Mark McGwire gained his first managerial experience Tuesday when Padres manager Andy Green was ejected in the third inning against the Pirates.

Green was tossed from the game when he felt the umpires blew a balk call. He leapt from the dugout and berated the crew until Brian Gorman dismissed him.

Then it was McGwire's turn.
The former slugger, who serves as Green's bench coach, got a chance to call the shots for a major league club, and the fans seemed to be pleased.
