Maria Sharapova took to social media Wednesday to post a letter thanking fans for their support after the five-time grand-slam champion's failed drugs test.

The letter came after Sharapova dropped a bombshell Monday, revealing she failed a test during the Australian Open in January.

The former world No. 1 tested positive for meldonium, which she had taken for a decade due to health reasons. She was not aware it had been added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) list of prohibited substances at the start of the year.
