Manchester United will take part in a lucrative new seven-a-side women’s tournament which could see them pocket nearly £2 million.
The eight teams set to feature in invitational tournament World Sevens Football (W7F) next month are due to be confirmed imminently and Telegraph Sport understands United are one of the big clubs involved.
The winners of the tournament, which will take place in Portugal from May 21 to 23, will receive $2.5 million (£1.9 million) while the total prize money for the event is worth $5 million.
There have been questions raised over player welfare, which is an ongoing concern in the game because of the rising number of injuries.
