Everything about Luke Ridnour’s N.B.A. career was fairly nondescript until a week ago. Over 12 seasons, he was gainfully employed by five organizations, averaging 9.3 points and 4.5 assists for the likes of the Milwaukee Bucks and the Minnesota Timberwolves. A steady-handed point guard, he was also capable of shooting from beyond the 3-point line.
He was a player who rounded out rosters, a backup vocalist to more famous stars. Nothing about his game screamed for attention.
But on the eve of the N.B.A.’s free-agent period, Ridnour has become someone else altogether, through no fault of his own — the league’s most famous basketball vagabond.
