Luis Severino and Gary Sanchez Help Yankees Finish Four-Game Sweep of Mets

This Mets season, after beginning with high expectations, veered off the tracks weeks ago. The team’s management bowed to that reality by trading away four veteran players and turning toward 2018 with the call-ups of two top prospects.

Yet what happened this week in the Bronx and Queens was jarring nonetheless. After briefly ceding the New York baseball hierarchy to the Mets in 2015 and 2016, the Yankees emphatically cemented themselves this week as the superior club.

The Yankees capped a four-game set with a 7-5 victory over the Mets on Thursday, earning their first season sweep of their intracity rivals since 2003.
