Mike the Tiger, LSU's live tiger mascot, was humanely euthanized Tuesday at the age of 11, the school announced.
Mike VI was diagnosed this May with spindle cell sarcoma, a form of cancer. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Mike's cancer had spread, and a veterinarian estimated he had one to two more months to live.
According to LSU's press release, there will not be a formal memorial service for Mike, but fans can share their memories on social media using #MikeVI.
Before his passing, Mike was one of only two live tiger mascots, along with Memphis' mascot, and the only one who lived on a college campus in the United States.
