Loyola Chicago to investigate women's coach Sheryl Swoopes amid mass player exodus

The Loyola Chicago women's basketball program has had 15 players request transfers over the past two seasons, including 10 this year.

The school wants to know why. Loyola announced Friday it is looking into the conduct of head coach Sheryl Swoopes, who has been accused of mistreating players.

"Any time there are allegations of student-athlete mistreatment, it is more than concerning," Jermaine Truax, Loyola's deputy athletic director, said in the statement, via the Chicago Tribune. "The welfare of our student-athletes is paramount. Thus, the Loyola University Chicago Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has asked for an independent and comprehensive university investigation into the women's basketball program.
