Los Angeles Unveils Plan for 2024 Olympic Bid

LOS ANGELES — With this city now likely to replace Boston as the American bidder for the 2024 Olympics, organizers released detailed financial projections on Tuesday that put the cost of hosting the Games at $4.1 billion.

As expected, the proposal leans heavily on existing venues — including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Staples Center and a planned Major League Soccer stadium next to the Coliseum — to keep costs down. In total, the competition venues and Olympic Stadium would cost a projected $1.1 billion, mostly for renovations ahead of the Games.

In addition, the bid’s organizing committee, LA2024, projected that private partners would pick up some of the largest costs, such as the construction of the Olympic Village.
