HOUSTON — As this autumn reaches its finishing crescendo, Astros emerging star shortstop Jeremy Peña is ending his rookie campaign just as he started: Grounded, unflappable and developing at his own pace.
Talking in Philadelphia following the Astros’ Game 5 win to put them on the brink of the title, Peña was calm and cool when asked what might be around the corner upon returning home this weekend.
“We’re just trying to stay grounded,” Peña said. “We’re going to just lock back in and play our game.”
Peña, 25, is preternaturally poised. Not everyone could step into the infield of a championship team, replace local legend Carlos Correa and make those memories recede so quickly.
