Some 28 days after Qatar and Ecuador kicked off the 2022 World Cup, the field of 32 has been whittled down to two. Sunday’s final matchup between France and Argentina has no shortage of storylines, but much of the focus is on the game’s two brightest stars: Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.
Messi’s lone white whale in a career full of accolades has been this coveted World Cup title. He and Argentina came close in 2014, but ultimately lost to Germany in extra time of the final. Not since 1986 have La Albiceleste hoisted the trophy.
