L.I.R.R. Outlines Changes to Ease the Wait for a Stampede of Fans Heading Home

Just in time for Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, the Long Island Rail Road formally unveiled a series of measures on Thursday designed to prevent thousands of fans who attend the race from having to wait hours afterward to get on a train and go home.

That is what happened a year ago, when more than 100,000 people showed up at Belmont Park to watch California Chrome’s failed bid for the Triple Crown. On a day when the track did not have enough food and drinks for the mass of people present, the L.
