Lead plaintiff in NFL concussion suit had 'extraordinary' brain damage

Former NFL running back Kevin Turner — one of the lead plaintiffs in a concussion lawsuit against the NFL that the league settled — showed an "extraordinary and unprecedented” amount of brain damage, in the form of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, when he died in March at age 46, Boston University CTE researchers announced Thursday.

Turner, who since 2010 had battled amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, likely related to CTE, played eight seasons for the Eagles and Patriots, and before that collegiately at Alabama. He began playing football at age 5.
