'Laws of Base Ball' sold for more than $3 million at auction

Documents entitled the “Laws of Base Ball” were sold at auction early Sunday morning for $3.26 million, marking the third highest sale price for a piece of sports memorabilia and a new record for baseball documents, ESPN.com reports.

The seller bought the papers in Texas for $12,000 in 1999, according to the Associated Press. Auction house SCP forecasted the documents would sell for about $1 million prior to putting them on sale April 7.

The seller and buyer are both anonymous.

SCP sold a 1920 Babe Ruth Yankees jersey for $4.
