Two Iran goals in the dying minutes of stoppage time shocked a short-handed Wales, 2-0, at the World Cup on Friday. A strike by Roozbeh Cheshmi gave Iran the lead eight minutes into added time, and another by Ramin Rezaeian sealed the victory and put Wales in danger of elimination.
The goals came after Wayne Hennessey, the Wales goalkeeper, was given a red card in the 86th minute after a reckless play on the ball well outside the box. It forced Wales to play the final minutes down a man and with its backup goalkeeper.
The win positions Iran, after being embarrassed by England 6-2 on Monday, to possibly advance out of the group, potentially at the expense of the United States.
