Larry Shyatt stepped down as Wyoming basketball coach Monday. Assistant coach Allen Edwards was named to succeed him.

"This is a very emotional moment for me and my family," Shyatt said in a lengthy statement. "As has been announced, I am stepping aside from my position as head basketball coach. This is not a decision I made impulsively. Rather, it was a decision made after much soul-searching and discussion. I am ending my career here with the reluctant blessing of (athletic director) Tom Burman and the administration. I believe that the timing of my decision is in the best interests of everyone involved.
