Lando Norris holds off Max Verstappen in chaotic Australian GP finish

Lando Norris stayed cool to win a wonderfully chaotic, rain-affected season opener in Australia from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ George Russell, the Briton answering a fair few questions about his mentality in the process.

But there was disappointment for Lewis Hamilton on his Ferrari debut, the seven-time world champion finishing in 10th, two places behind his new teammate Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton, 40, led briefly at one stage when he stayed out on slick tyres after the rain came again with 10 laps remaining. But with the showers too heavy to continue, he was eventually forced to pit, hitting out at his race engineer for missing what he described as a “big opportunity”.
