Kentucky Speedway will add another asphalt layer to its racing surface as it prepares for the 2017 NASCAR season. All work is to be done this month, track officials said in a release.
According to track general manager Mark Simendinger, the team made the decision after examining the track that “portions of the paving performed earlier this year did not meet the construction specifications.
"These deficiencies had no impact on this year's racing and would affect only the long term viability of the surface if left uncorrected. In order to remedy these issues, an additional surface course of asphalt will be applied.
