Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist will not run in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita because of a bad ankle, the horse’s trainer, Doug O’Neill announced in a press released posted on Facebook.
The 3-year old colt came out of a workout Thursday with the injury, Bloodhorse.com noted.
“Its with heavy hearts that we regrettably have to report that Kentucky Derby Winner, Nyquist came out of his most recent work with a puffy ankle,” O’Neill's statement reads. “Though Nyquist is 100% sound and x-rays are clean, the timing unfortunately precludes us from the dream of having him run in the Breeders' Cup Classic in our own backyard.
