The horses were saddled in the paddock, and the jockeys then boarded their mounts after the call of “riders up” from the Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. “My Old Kentucky Home” was played by the University of Louisville band as they made their way to the track for the race. Post time is 6:57 p.m.
The customary walkover from the backside to the paddock was a somewhat crowded affair, but nothing like it normally is when trainers, owners and family and friends escort the horses around the track to the paddock for saddling.
