During the leadup to Saturday's 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby, a brief but torrential rain shower threatened to turn the track into a muddy mess just 90 minutes before post time.
It didn't matter to Nyquist, the 2016 favorite and winner of the "Run for the Roses," who claimed the win in front of a crowd of 167,227 fans, the second-largest crowd in derby history, behind 2015's record turnout.
