Kate Markgraf kicks down another barrier for female broadcasters with Euro 2016 assignment

Kate Markgraf played in 201 international soccer matches — starting in 187 of them — and won two Olympic gold medals and one World Cup. From nearly the moment she walked off the field for the final time, she has been broadcasting soccer for pretty much every American outlet that is invested in the game.

Pretty impressive, right?

So in June, Markgraf will become the first female broadcaster to call games in a major men’s soccer championship on American television. She will be one of the color analysts ESPN features to work the 2016 European Championship, which is considered the game’s greatest tournament outside the World Cup.
