ZHANGJIAKOU, China — Julia Marino put together the run of her life at the perfect time, and it nearly resulted in a stunning victory at the women's snowboarding slopestyle event.
Even so, she'll take home silver — Team USA's first medal of the 2022 Games — finishing just behind New Zealand's Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, who won it on the final run of the day. Australia's Tess Coady took the bronze.
Sunday marked a changing of the guard in the slopestyle event, in more than one way. For the first time ever, the United States didn’t win gold in the event.
