Jose Fernandez’s memorial procession made an unannounced stop

Miami's emotional farewell to Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez during the memorial procession included one bittersweet, unannounced stop.

The procession, led by the hearse carrying Fernandez's body, made a stop in front of La Carreta, a Cuban restaurant where he frequently ate before games, USA Today reported.

Miamians have gathered at La Carreta to celebrate the Marlins' two World Series championships, but on Wednesday afternoon the usually bustling restaurant came to a halt as Fernandez's procession approached.

Employees moved outside and raised cups of Cuban coffee to the Marlins star, who died early Sunday in a boating accident off Miami Beach.
