New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk rushed off the ice Tuesday night after taking a skate blade to the face in an awkward collision with Canadiens winger Artturi Lehkonen.
On Wednesday, Isles GM Lou Lamoriello provided an update on Boychuk’s status, revealing the 36-year-old blueliner needed an astonishing 90 stitches to seal the wound on his eyelid.
Boychuk Injury Update from Lou Lamoriello: “Johnny Boychuk is ok. Fortunately the skate blade just got the eyelid. It took 90 stitches for a plastic surgeon to fix. But he’ll be fine.” #Isles pic.
