Jimmy Roberts, 75, Dies; Won Five Stanley Cups in Montreal

Jimmy Roberts, a five-time Stanley Cup champion with the Montreal Canadiens and an original member of the St. Louis Blues who went on to coach the Buffalo Sabres and the Hartford Whalers, died on Friday. He was 75.

His death was announced by the Blues, who said the cause was cancer. The team did not say where he died.

Roberts had been scheduled to drop the ceremonial puck Saturday night before the Blues’ Hockey Fights Cancer Night game against the Islanders.

Playing both defense and forward, Roberts, a three-time All-Star, had 126 goals and 194 assists in 1,006 regular-season games with Montreal and St.
