CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jim Furyk at 45 isn't the norm on a PGA Tour highlighted by colorful, bright-eyed, social-media-savvy youngsters who refer to him affectionately as a “grinder.”
Now set to play his first tournament since undergoing surgery on his left wrist on Feb. 1, Furyk has a daunting task this weekend at the Wells Fargo Championship. But despite the lengthy, wet course and a loaded field, Furyk agreed the next few days in North Carolina will be a fresh start.

“I’m hoping for my own sake that I’m patient with myself,” Furyk told reporters after Wednesday’s pro-am at Quail Hollow.
