FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Pro Bowl New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson was charged Thursday with resisting arrest and traffic violations stemming from a high-speed road race in St. Charles County Missouri July 14.
"We are aware the situation and are gathering information," the Jets said in a statement. "This is a pending legal matter and we will have no further comment at this time." The organization had been previously unaware of the incident until the news broke Thursday evening.
According to a release from the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Richardson was engaged in a road race with another car and was clocked traveling at 122, 135 and 143 miles per hour.
