A top FIFA official pleaded not guilty Saturday to racketeering and bribery charges in a corruption case aimed at soccer’s governing body that has sent shock waves through the sport.
The official, Jeffrey Webb, was released on $10 million bond following his arraignment in federal court in Brooklyn. His lawyer, Edward O’Callaghan, did not comment after the hearing.
Webb, 50, was among seven FIFA officials detained in Switzerland. The rest are fighting extradition.
Webb will be required to stay within 20 miles of the federal courthouse in Brooklyn and to wear an electronic monitoring device as conditions of his release.
