BRISTOL, Tenn. — It could have been worse. It could have been the first wreck of the weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, but it wasn’t.
Jeff Gordon saved himself to finish 11th and record his best finish in Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s No. 88 car.
“I know it’s only one position, but it would have been nice to have gotten a top 10 this weekend,” Gordon told Sporting News. “I felt like we had an effort capable of a top 10 this weekend.”
The five-time Bristol winner did navigate himself into second place shortly after the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race’s 100-lap mark, trailing just behind Kyle Busch, when his car flirted with disaster.
