Jarryd Hayne was a preseason sensation last year. People rooted for him in part because of story: a former dominant rugby player trying to play American football.
It didn't work out, and Hayne was cut from the 49ers. In May, the 28-year-old retired from football because he knew his chances of getting real playing time in the NFL were slim.
"I need to be getting game time and you just can't get that over there (in the NFL) because of the way it works," Hayne told the Locker Room Podcast, via the New Zealand Herald.
