Once it became clear that a trade wasn't in the cards, this was always going to be at least Phase I of the end game for Jacob Trouba and the Jets.
The staring contest was always going to last into November, and Trouba was always going to sign for much, much less than he'd earn on anything approaching an open market. Voila: Winnipeg signed their 22-year-old, very-good defenseman to a two-year deal worth an average of $3 million annually.
